This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
