The ice cream brand's Founding Partner Claims Parent Company Halted Palestine-Themed Frozen Dessert Product
One of the co-founders behind the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has stated how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the introduction for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.
Ben Cohen, that established the company alongside Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he plans to personally create the controversial product as part of an individual collection highlighting issues the company has been prevented from speaking out about.
Ongoing Dispute Between Creators versus Parent Company
The recent development escalates the continuing conflict among the world-famous dessert company with its corporate parent, the British consumer goods corporation that has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.
Both founders have asserted that the parent company along with its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".
Watermelon Flavor as a Symbol of Support
Mr. Cohen stated via an Instagram video that he is creating a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, requesting public suggestions for naming options plus potential ingredients.
“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder declared in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”
This particular fruit has become an emblem for solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its coloration, that match those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.
Historical Activism plus Current Changes
Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling their Israel business to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in disputed territories.
The new dessert series is being created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which originally established several years back to support former political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".
Management Shifts plus Future Intentions
The founder revealed that he will create other ice cream flavors focusing on issues which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly by Unilever.
This development follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at the company recently, following decades with the organization, mentioning concerns that its independence had been undermined following corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.
At that time, Ben Cohen commented how “My partner has a really big heart and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."
“My conscience compels me to keep working within the organization to fight for its independence so that it can fulfill the social mission, the principles that it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he explained to media outlets.
