Government Official States Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Told to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Cars.

A defence minister has revealed that the MoD is currently investigating the potential threats posed by Chinese cars, and staff have been told to avoid talking about classified information in all cars.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to discuss classified material while travelling in China-made cars.

The minister said that the MoD is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, but emphasised that security is a concern in every contemporary cars.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles represent a very small number.
However whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any kind of car, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Defence Background

This revelation comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could allow China to switch off buses and cause disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia spy ship has been shining laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

The broader security environment highlights the significance of strong protocols and caution in every aspects of official operations, from transport use to communication habits.
