Giants QB Wilson Fires Back at Ex-Mentor Sean Payton Regarding Jaxson Dart Remarks
NY Giants signal-caller Russell Wilson did not hold back on online platforms this week, responding to recent comments from his ex-mentor Sean Payton.
"Classless... but not shocked...," Wilson declared via social media. "Had no idea you're still offering rewards 15+ years later through the press."
The quarterback's response directly referenced the infamous Bounty Gate issue from 2009 to 2011, when Payton led the Saints.
During that period, the league found that the Saints had incentivized players for making aggressive tackles on rival teams. As a result, Payton received a suspension from the league for one season.
The Cause of the Recent Exchange
Wilson's reaction came after Payton made remarks after the Broncos' remarkable 33-32 victory over the Giants. The coach remarked that the Giants had "found a little spark" with their new QB, who has taken over Wilson as the starting quarterback.
Moreover, Payton hinted that he had informed Giants owner John Mara that he would rather playing against Wilson instead of Dart.
"I spoke to John Mara recently and I said, 'We were hoping that change would've happened well after our game,'" Payton stated.
